         Providing quality of service (QoS) for streaming users is a challenging task in wireless packet networks, such as high-speed downlink packet access (HSDPA) and CDMA2000 1xEV-DO.

        Thus, a De-Jitter Buffer Aware Scheduling for Streaming Traffic in Packet Wireless Networks will provide better QoS guarantee for streaming services. First, I will get understand of streaming services by reading book. Then I am going to learn some typical scheuduling algorithms like Max C/I, Round Robin and the most important one-PF(Proportional Fair). After this, the scheduling algorithms for the De-Jitter Buffer will be proposed.  Once finished the scheduling algorithms, I will move on to Matlab to design the simulator for my case.

  1. I learnt what is channel fading and how it related to my project. Channel fading is the main reason that make it difficult to provide the quality of service. At the same time I searched the information about channel fading on Internet and I knew the different types of the channel fading-like the Rayleigh fading which is a statistical model for the effect of a propagation environment on a radio signal, such as that used by wireless devices, and the Rician fading which is a stochastic model for radio propagation anomaly caused by partial cancellation of a radio signal by itself.

   2. I got understand what was scheduling. It is the process of deciding how to commit resources between a variety of possible tasks. Meanwhile, I find some typical scheduling algorithms on Internet, like the Max C/I which can yield the highest possible system throughput since it always serves the user with the best channel quality, however, on the other hand, high system throughput under Max C/I scheduler comes at the cost of degraded user fairness because users at unfavorable location, e.g., near cell border, may hardly get served and would be starved, and then the Round Robin (RR) which serves users in an alternating fashion, thus providing absolute fairness between users but the throughput of the entire system is poor, then the last one-Proportional Fair (PF) which take both system throughput and fair into account and efficiently exploits fading peaks of each user and benefits from the so-called multiuser diversity

  3. Then I moved to streaming media which is important to my project. I learnt what was streaming media, how it worked. Streaming media is multimedia that is constantly received by and presented to an end-user while being delivered by a provider. Meanwhile I knew the typical procedures for streaming services in wireless packet networks as well as that providing quality of service (QoS) for streaming users is a challenging task in wireless packet networks, such as high-speed downlink packet access (HSDPA) and CDMA2000 1xEV-DO. My project is to propose a De-Jitter Buffer Aware Scheduler which takes into account de-jitter buffer state at user terminal. And this Scheduler can providing quality of service by reducing service outage

  4. I understood what was De-Jitter Buffer. As the fact that streaming services are mainly one-way from media server to user terminal, the de-jitter buffer is typically employed at streaming player of user terminals to minimize the degradation of packet delay on user experience. My task is to propose a aware scheduler which can change the size of the de-jitter buffer with the variation of the network condition.

  5. I compared the three typical scheduling algorithm-Max C/I, Round Robin (RR),Proportional Fair (PF), and I understood the advantages and the disadvantages of each scheduling algorithm as well as that I got a deep understanding of scheduling via the comparison.

  6. After preparation above, I got a overall comprehension of my project and what I need to do as well as how to do. Then I started to propose the scheduling algorithm which was the key of the entire project. But When I did it, I found that the scheduling algorithm was more difficult and important than I expected, I was in trouble with it. I decide put more efforts on the scheduling algorithm and make it better than now.

  7. In my project, the simulations will be carried out to verify the performance of the proposed scheduling algorithm, so I need to review the matlab to design the simulator of the project and implement it. As I didn’t learn very well on matlab, I just review a part of it. I need more time to finish the review.

       I need more time to propose the scheuduling algorithm, and then I will move the matlab part, including designing simulator for my case and implementing the simulator. I think this will spend me a lot of time to finish.The next task is to understand the results coming from the simulation and analyse the results, then discuss it with my superviser to figure out that if there is any problem with my scheduling algorithm as well as how to fix the problem.At last , I will finish my paper of the project.
